Although in theory summer has not ended in the UK most of the high street and online retailers are already preparing for autumn by introducing their new clothing ranges.

This is not really surprising as the clothing retailers are always one season ahead which gives the opportunity to be well prepared and have suitable attire for when the cooler days begin in earnest! One of the easiest ways to extend your summer wardrobe into the cooler autumnal days is to add coloured tights to your outfits.

Using contrasting colours is a great way live up outfits for both work and informal wear. Purple, red, blue, green and yellow as well as the usual black and brown means that you have some fabulous colours to choose from to team with both dresses and skirts. As the days become chillier you can quite simply increase the thickness, denier, of the tights and add a coordinating cardigan or jumper for a chic and stylish look.

Another great advantage to coloured and patterned tights is that you do not have to resort to trousers to keep your legs warm! Women who have a large tummy can also opt for tights which have control panels to help provide a sleek silhouette when wearing dresses made from clingy fabrics such as jersey or knitted dresses. Alternatively teamed with skirts of different lengths is a great way to mix and match your wardrobe.

Coloured tights look great with court styled shoes, ankle and knee lengths boots as well as trendy when worn with shoes with a covered toe and ankle straps. Moreover, you don’t have to stick with plain coloured tights for younger women, or those who are young at heart can opt for tartan or argyle patterns. Whilst the more adventurous women can choose from some great patterns and colours to really draw attention to their legs and stand out from the crowd!

You should also apply the same principles when choosing the appropriate colour of tights. For example a black dress and patent court shoes look stunning when teamed with purple tights, add a toning purple cardigan or accessories and this look will brighten up work wear in an unobtrusive yet fashionable way.

When coordinating with a patterned or floral dress or skirt you can simply select a colour which is incorporated within the pattern for a chic and stylish look.
