Cowboy Boots Aren’t Just For Cowboys
By Art Gib
When I was in elementary school, the music program always helped to put on a program that we called the Hoedown. We all dressed up as cowboys and cowgirls; there were games for the family, crafts, prizes, raffles, and more.
My parents would come out for the festivities, and my dad would pull his classic cowboy boots from the back of the closet. Just seeing him wear those old black boots and his favorite cowboy hat made me smile.
Whether or not you consider yourself a cowboy or cowgirl, cowboy boots can create a classic look with numerous outfits. Plus, they are a great accessory to complete any Western costume for Halloween, a carnival like the Hoedown, or some other occasion.
Finding cowboy boots isn’t very tough. If you intend to wear them regularly–especially since they can be used to effectively keep your feet warm during the winter months–you will certainly want to find a durable pair.
You should also determine if these boots are going to serve a fashion function only or if you will actually be riding in them. The requirements for your boots will change what to look for and where to shop, so take as much time as you need making comparisons.
Some department stores carry high-quality leather ladies cowboy boots, but if you can’t find them at the local mall, don’t be afraid to shop online or check out specialty stores for ranchers and farmers.
If you want a pair that will be versatile, then choose a neutral color such as black or brown. For myself, I am always an advocate of black shoes, as they will match any other color easily.
Most cowboy boots run in the same sizes your regular shoe do, but take your time trying on various pairs, as sizing can still change between brands. Make sure that they are snug enough that they don’t start jarring off your feet with your every step, but leave enough room for comfort.
Leather boots of all kinds can be specialized, particularly if they are handcrafted. So, look for cowboy boots that feature unique details. If you cannot find any, then visit a leather worker and ask him to add something. After all, leather can be carved, stamped, and embroidered. Don’t settle for something plain.
Remember that the whole of your outfit does not have to be composed of the complete Western getup. Ladies’ boots can create a stunning finishing touch with skinny jeans, miniskirts, or wide-legged pants. Just make sure that you choose a pair that is unique, comfortable, and high-quality.
